Pre-K Program

missionIt has been well established that early childhood is a crucial time for children‘s cognitive development. We now know that very young children are capable of much more academically than was previously imagined.  Our curriculum focuses largely on language, literacy/reading, writing, mathematics and science.  In pre-K, children will be taught foundational knowledge through age appropriate instructional activities, such as read aloud, discussions, songs, games, projects, and other active learning opportunities. Both free play and “structured” play (where teachers purposefully design play experiences to support specific learning goals) are particularly important for this age group.

By the end of the school year, your child will have grasped and enhanced the following core skills (see also our sample daily schedule below and monthly themes tab)

Cognitive skills

  • Develop increasing ability to count in sequence from 1-100
  • Recognize numbers from 1-50
  • Understand the concept of sequence
  • Recognize patterns
  • Duplicate and extends patterns
  • Create pattern
  • Sort and classify objects into groups that have the same use
  • Matches, sort and regroup objects according to one or more characteristics
  • Understand basic concepts of time
  • Complete eight to twelve -piece puzzle.
  • Recognize and name shapes

Language development skills

  • Recognize words or signs he sees often

Pre-Writing skills

  • Express ideas and stories through pictures  they draw
  • Proper way to hold a pen and pencil
  • Use pencils, crayons, and markers for drawing and writing.
  • Improve fine motor skills through manipulating play
  • Successfully  attempt  to write  the  alphabet letters

Social/Creative skills

  • Practicing positive social behaviors
  • Get along well with other children
  • Recognize authority
  • Share with others, Express creativity through art and music
  • Develop imagination
  • Talks easily
  • Able to stay on task

Our Sample Daily Schedule

07:00 a.m. to 09:00 a.m. Children are welcomed into the day care. Breakfast. Free play until most of the children have arrived and have finished eating.
09:00 a.m. to 09:15 a.m. Circle Time. Teacher brings the group together for morning routines, introduces the day’s activities and themes.
09:15 a.m. to 09:45 a.m. Learning Time. Children learn math, science, social studies or language /literacy. Teacher implements small-group activities using creative arts, dramatic play, writing, library, blocks, manipulative, math, science and sensory learning centers.

10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Free play time.
11:00 a.m. to 11:25 a.m. Reading Time
11:25 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Outdoor Play (weather permitting).

01:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Rest Time and Quiet Time: Most children nap or rest quietly. As children wake from rest time, they can select from a variety of quiet play choices, such as drawing, books, or puzzles.
